One reason why this list is so dormant is that there is a
climbing newsgroup in usenet called rec.climbing, which
does have heavy traffic. So in order not to turn this
mailing list into a bogus one, any suggestions as to what
can be discussed here?

From the (relative) frequency of the topics, I guess most
people are interested in rock climbing as opposed to alpinism.
I don't know much about the latter, so I can't make any
suggestions (hey, what's the fun in walking up there when
you can use the 5.10 route :-)).
