Hello,
I am hoping to go on a first Himalayan trek, probably March/April-ish.
I'm not too worried about terrain, although altitude is a big unknown
(no problems at 4000M+ in the Alps, but this is different...).
My main concern is the reports I frequently see/hear about Nepal becoming
a great rubbish tip, due largely to trekkers, climbers, etc. I think
any interesting western-organised commercial trek is unlikely to create
too much new litter, if only because the organiser might be seriously
damaged by critical clients generating bad publicity. A holiday could
nevertheless be ruined.
Any comments/tips on where to go and/or avoid? Is it true as the brochures
claim that the 'tougher' treks are off the main beaten track, and are they
therefore generally OK?
I should also be interested in any first-time-at-altitude anecdotes.
Thanks for your comments,
Nick Kew.
