I just returned from an amazing 21-day climbing/rafting/
mountaineering trip in the Altai Mountains in Siberia close
to the Mongolian/Chinese border. My heart has long been
in the Sierra Nevadas, but I found myself overwhelmed by the
rivers and mountains in the Altais. Great guides, great
food, modern equipment, extremely modest prices, and
friendly people--an experience both exotic and familiar at
the same time. If anyone would like further information
about hiking, rafting, climbing, even archeological or
ethnological research on such excursions, just let me know
(it only costs about 25% of a comparable trip in the US).
